Automating ETL

This course covers the beginner's guide to extract, transform and load along with including the hidden step of the process. I approach teaching this in partitions to allow students to apply this to ETL, ELT or LET models.

Throughout the course, you as a student will be completing a project to help you internalize the learning. In addition, I require that you complete your own project so you can apply these principles to a topic of interest. In addition to the main project, you will have four other projects that you can complete to internalize your learning. Your own project can be completed after you finish all five practice projects or during your work.

Both the Course Only and Course With Interview Material have 2 optional projects you can complete on your own.

You can enroll in the Course Only or the Course With Interview Material. The Course With Interview Material features interview material, an actual practice interview with feedback, and introduction to research.

About the Course

I started Automating ETL on Udemy in 2014 and have taught the course for over a decade. For several years, Automating ETL was the highest-rated course on Udemy. To this day, I still provide a professional update most years related to the data field for students who've completed at least half the course.

As long time instructors on Udemy can share, Udemy changed a few years back. Some instructors, such as myself, do not feel that these changes were beneficial to both instructors and students. For example, instructors can face restrictions sharing external content, even if that content is extremely useful. Courses that involve topics such as ETL are often deep and it helps students to see other helpful content, which can strengthen their learning. Teaching platforms that favor instructor's knowledge over internal marketing will do better in the long run. This is because instructors with experience in the field want their students to walk away with the ability to apply and enhance their learning.

While students can still purchase the course on Udemy, I will not be updating main course content going forward on Udemy. The latest course content of Automating ETL resides on Gumroad, provided that Gumroad does not engage in the same behavior as Udemy.

The Gumroad version of Automating ETL uses platforms that are compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux machines in its main course content. Updates may sometimes feature other platforms to demonstrate how students can solve the same problems with related technologies that may be supported on fewer operating systems.

About the Professional Updates

Included in this course (and the Udemy course) are professional updates related to the field of data. I have been working in data for over a decade and observe trends and share my observations with students. Most of the time, these updates occur once a year. This version of the course organizes them by year whereas the Udemy version gets them as either an announcement or added content.

About the Instructor
